ACCEED 1416 - Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) copper unit

With the introduction of the ACCEED 1416 the versatile ULAF+ system turns into a carrier-class EFM access platform. ACCEED line card and desktop units allow the implementation of a broad variety of crucial applications in the promising field of carrier grade Ethernet.

Following the successful ULAF+ product philosophy, the ACCEED EFM family has been designed to be fully compatible with the installed ULAF+ base preserving customer investment and pave the way for successful migration to Carrier Ethernet services.

Copper based Ethernet services with fiber like speed and quality

EFMC-LR is based on well known ITU/ETSI SHDSL technology, supporting reliable, spectral compatible and symmetrical services of 192kbit/s to 5.7Mbit/s per wire-pair. Using standard based EFM-bonding, the ACCEED 1416 can aggregate up to 16 wire-pairs with the maximum data rate of 91.2 Mbit/s per customer. EFM bonding offers the great flexibility to aggregate wire-pairs each with a distinct bit rate with very low overhead and little latency added. Moreover wire-pairs can be added or removed with no impact on the transmission quality, i.e. without bit errors. EFMC bonding delivers fiber like bandwidth to provide profitable services without the need of costly and time consuming fiber installation.


Highly flexible and scalable architecture

ACCEED 1416 situated at the same location (e.g. in the same Subrack) can be concatenated via System Cross Connect (SCC) building an array of devices sharing their resources. This allows the mapping of any SHDSL port to any ACCEED Ethernet port: «any port / any card». This architecture supports:

  • Flexible bonding of 2 up to 16 wire-pairs to match bandwidth requirements
  • Optimal utilization of system resources
  • Resiliency and card protection

Carrier grade Ethernet services

Traffic aware switching with extended flow management allows providers to address the emerging market of premium voice and data services over Ethernet.
ACCEED features a managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with up to 4 Ethernet customer ports per unit supporting:

  • E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree services according to MEF 9 and 14
  • per flow bandwidth profiles according to MEF10

Extended line reach

ACCEED 1416 utilizes the most advanced SHDSL technology which offers the best performance in the market and minimal power consumption. Moreover ACCEED 1416 units supports up to 8 repeater stages per wire-pair. BSRU, the ULAF+ two wire-pair SHDSL.bis repeater, fits into EFM and TDM applications. With the built-in Remote Power Supply (RPS) up to 4 BSRU stages can be fed from Central Office and Customer Premises each.


Synchronization over packed based networks

For clock sensitive applications like mobile base station backhaul, synchronization is very important. ACCEED 1416 offers a comprehensive feature set to provide high quality timing to customer location:

  • Network synchronization can be derived from 2MHz or SyncE physical reference clocks as well as from protocol based IEEE 1588V2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) where no physical reference is available
  • NTR delivers the reference clock to customer premises over SHDSL
  • SyncE and 2MHz clock outputs are available on the customer premises
